COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The latest updates concerning our church decisions regarding COVID-19.

July 23,  2020 - 8:30PM

Dear SGPC Members & Friends,

We thank you for your patience as we have been prayerfully navigating the state of our county and state. As you may know, the Relaunch Committee and Session have decided to postpone our reopening indefinitely because of the uncertainty of the rising Covid-19 numbers. Instead we will have virtual SGPC Online Sunday Celebration Services beginning on July 26th with video recorded messages from different Guest Speakers.

Our virtual Sunday Celebration Services will be posted at 9am every Sunday, accessible on our website. We will share more information and details soon. For the sake of fellowship and accountability, we encourage you to partner with other brothers and sisters in Christ in watching the Services at the same time from your individual homes. As we continue on, past services will be archived and viewable from our Resources Tab.

We will continue to do our best to keep you informed and updated with our church's decisions as time continues. While we continue to remain physically distanced, we pray that you are making every effort to remain in fellowship with one another. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your Communication Leader, or anyone on our leadership team, know if you have any prayer requests or concerns.

As the body of Christ, may we be taking this time to cling to the Lord, seek opportunities to share the Gospel, and fervently lift up our nation and this world in prayer.

Grace and Peace,
SGPC's Staff & Session

May 28, 2020 - 6PM

Dear Church Family and Friends,

As we patiently wait for the Governor to allow places of worship to reopen again, we want to assure you that our church leadership team has been prayerfully considering & discussing what is the best way to open with all the safety protocols in place.

We ask for your prayers as we seek & discern the wisest way to move forward, keeping in mind both our strong desire to fellowship together again and the safety & well being of those around us. We are closely following the news, CDC guidelines and what is possible within our church. We ask for your patience as we consider the facts, bearing Philippians 2:3-4 in mind:

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
How we proceed is important to us and for our church’s testimony within our community. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.

* Please keep an eye out for our email and website updates as we make progress in our plans.

In Christ,
SGPC's Staff & Session

April 10, 2020 - 5PM

Dear SGPC Members and Friends,

As we continue to prayerfully discern & stay informed with our county's response to Covid-19, Session has decided to suspend our Sunday Services, KidMin Activities and all group gatherings on our church campus indefinitely until it is safe to return

During this time, we continue to encourage you to watch or stream Worship Services on Sundays with your household or your community group. You can discuss it afterwards within your small group. We also encourage you to engage with SGPC Online and use it as a reference for deeper conversations and discussion during times of virtual fellowship.

“Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become 'unity' conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.” - A.W. Tozer

While we are scattered physically and unable to meet together, may we continue to strive to look to the Lord, and worship in unity together in spirit, spurring one another up in love for our God. May this be a time we draw nearer to one another as a consequence of drawing nearer to Jesus.

Please continue to stay in contact with your Communication Leader and let us know how we can both support or pray for you during this time. We look forward to the day we can fellowship together face to face!

Serving and trusting God together with you,
SGPC’s Staff and Session

March 14, 2020  -  5PM

Dear SGPC Members and Friends,

After much prayer, discernment and discussion, we have decided to suspend our Sunday Worship Services, beginning tomorrow, March 15. While our church is working on finding ways to stream our own service, we encourage you to watch a live stream service from one of the following churches within our Presbyterian ECO family: Glenkirk ChurchSt. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Our church sermon will be online as soon as we can.

We will be joining our nation in praying for containment and a swift end to this virus, so even though we are not meeting in person, please connect in spirit with the Church. We encourage you to continue to engage with one another in healthy ways, utilizing the phone, email, or internet. As a Leadership Team, we still stand firm in what we wrote on Friday and believe we are called to live in the reality of who we are as God’s children. May we strive to encourage and exhort one another to cling to God's hope, love, peace and Truth in any way we can, and press on to be bearers of His hope wherever we are.

We will inform you of future changes, as well as other resources in the week to come. We will also keep our church website as up to date as possible. Please refer to this page for all the latest updates.

Pray with us as we seek ways to creatively still be a light to the world!

Serving and trusting God together with you,
SGPC’s Staff and Session

March 13, 2020  -  6PM

Dear SGPC Members and Friends,

SGPC’s staff and session would like to notify you of the decisions we made recently in light of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

We first wanted to affirm with you that now, more than ever, we are called to live in the reality of who we are as God’s children. We are members of the body of Christ and Jesus is Lord! We can pray with confidence, knowing that, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1.

While being confident in God’s unwavering faithfulness and amazing grace, we also want to be wise. As a church, we will continue to keep our regular scheduled service with high caution. Should there be any changes to the situation, we will be responsive and send an update.

So, please note the following preventive steps and changes:

  1. We ask that, if you have any reason to believe that you might be sick, to please stay home to fully recover and refrain from coming to church.
  2.  If you decide to come to church, please make sure to follow healthy practices (e.g., covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing, sanitizing or washing hands often, etc.).
  3. KidMin and Art Fusion will consolidate some classes in order to protect teachers and students (please look out for further details from our Director).
  4. When worshiping together in the sanctuary, please spread out as much as possible, so that safe distances can be maintained.
  5. We are looking into the possibility of live-streaming our worship service, so that those who decide to stay home can participate remotely. Online giving is still accessible.
  6. All church groups should decide for themselves if they will continue to meet.
  7. The serving of all food and refreshments will be suspended to minimize the chance of spreading germs in that way.
  8. To the best of our ability, we will be taking extra safety precautions in sanitizing hard surfaces and common areas.
  9. Please notify us if you have any immediate needs. We would love to do our best to help. If you also feel led to help, please contact any Elder.

Let us also continue to be hope and peace to all we know, even as we face the unknown days ahead. Pray not only for yourself, your family and friends, but offer hope to those you meet.
